Taj Marquis Reed (b. Trenton, NJ) is a lens-based artist exploring the liberatory potential of pictures and letters. His art practice uses image-making, reappropriation, writing, and criticality to offer counternormative portrayals of masculinity, sociality, and lived environments.

Taj holds a BA in Art, Literature, and Human Behavioral Studies summa cum laude from St. Mary’s College of Maryland and is a second year MFA in Photography candidate at the University of Hartford currently on exploratory leave.

He has exhibited with Harper’s Gallery and Hercules Art Studio Program in New York City, New York; Villa Heike Gallery in Berlin, Germany; Agony Books in Richmond, Virginia; Boyden Gallery in Historic St. Mary’s, Maryland, and digitally through the Maryland State Arts Council. In addition, his work has been featured by Booooooom, Pomegranate Press, Black Mass Publishing, and other digital and print publications.

Taj will be a 2025 Cornell Image Text Workshop Resident and a 2026 artist-in-residence at The Anderson Ranch Arts Center. He lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
